Mediation

Mediation is a process in which parties to a dispute engage the assistance of a neutral third party, a Mediator, to assist them in an endeavour to reach agreement.  The Mediator’s role is to assist the parties to identify the issues in dispute and to develop their own options in order to reach an agreement regarding the future arrangements for their children, and to finalise their property and financial matters.

Kate received her initial training in Family Mediation at Bond University in 1994 and for many years acted as Chairperson / Mediator for Legal Aid Queensland.  Kate is a founding member of Gold Coast Mediations and, as a Nationally Accredited Mediator, Kate has the necessary skills and techniques required by the National Mediator Accreditation Standards to assist you and your spouse in reaching your own decisions by:

  • Identifying, clarifying and exploring issues in dispute;
  • Communicating with each other;
  • Generating and assessing options; and
  • Bringing your dispute or conflict to a conclusion.

Kate Keating and Alexis Vaughan are also experienced in representing clients in Mediations, both Court Ordered and privately organised, and can assist you through the negotiation and decision making process to achieve a final settlement without the need for a judicially determined outcome.
